Painted Portraits

Painted Portraits

Throughout this series, I explore the diverse individuals who catch my attention for various reasons. Ranging from my friend Elizabeth Catlett to a resilient cancer survivor, an avid art collector, and capturing a quiet moment of a friend enjoying morning tea. Unlike my previous endeavor of creating large-scale portrait drawings of renowned American artists, this current project presents a contrast in focus.

The small portraits I create are characterized by their intimate, intense, and emotionally profound nature. Having been exposed to portraits since my upbringing in Holland, where the tradition of Dutch portraiture thrived during the Golden Age, this form of art has held a significant place in my life. The discipline of portraiture has captivated me, becoming a vital element of my artistic repertoire over the years.
